With 2017 now behind us, we rounded up our most read articles of the past year, including the five favorites of our foreign and the five favorites of our Hungarian readers. From gorgeous guesthouses to the best beaches, the year behind us was filled with a colorful array of articles that had one thing in common: they showed all the reasons why we love Balaton.
Sandy beaches never go out of style, and the fact that two of the most popular English-language articles were about them is the only proof we need. There are more and more sand-covered beaches around Lake Balaton and this actually is not only good for holiday-goers who prefer the soft and warm grains of sand under their feet, but it’s also beneficial for the lake’s self-purification.
Talking about sandy beaches we must mention Balaton’s biggest one, which is PLÁZS in the buzzing lakeside town of Siófok. The sizable sandy beach comfy sun loungers and neat beach umbrellas providing optimum circumstances for sunbathing, not to mention all the other goodness it has to offer: an active nightlife with concerts, sports facilities including yoga and SUP, but we can also just sit back and enjoy watching sports on the large projector screen.
“Can you recommend a good spot at Lake Balaton?” – this is a question we heard countless times already, and the fact that our list of the top 100 great spots of Lake Balaton was very popular among our foreign and Hungarian readers alike shows how relevant this question is. We hope that this list was useful and it led some of our readers to their new favorite bars, restaurants, museums, and sports clubs.
Earlier this year we rounded up the most beautiful guesthouses around Lake Balaton. This was the third installment of this series which also shows that Balaton keeps evolving as there are always some new, amazing spots that we stumble upon. From refurbished castles and cozy cottages to clean, modern designs, there’s something for everyone among this stunning accommodations.
Highly popular among all of our readers regardless their language was yet another roundup: this one was all about the 50 best restaurants of Lake Balaton. These days it’s actually pretty hard to select who can make it to these lists, because there are more and more unique spots around of Lake Balaton. We hope that those who had the chance to visit any of these places agreed with our observations.
The most read article on our Hungarian site was one of the most popular among our English-language readers as well; in it we rounded up the best restaurants Lake Balaton had to offer in 2017.
Our springtime bucket list was the second most popular among Hungarian readers: it had all the best places to visit and activities to try that make Balaton what it is during spring. Besides riding bikes and going to markets, there are things that we can do in a much more intimate way during spring than we could ever do during summer with all the crowds.
There’s something at these ten beaches that make them stand out from among all the others around Lake Balaton. Some of them are sporty; some of them green, some of them are for those who are smart, some of them are for those who wish to enjoy the sights, and, there’s even something for the four-legged friends. The Hungarian-sea is trying to keep up with all the modern expectations: whether it means aiding working from the beach or fulfilling the needs of families with dogs.
One of the most read Hungarian-language articles of 2017 was our report about the freezing of Lake Balaton back in January in which we collected all the best photographs and videos about the ice that ruled the lake. Although there haven’t been anything like that so far this season, there’s still a chance that we can experience it all over again this year.
The list of the 100 great spots around Lake Balaton was popular among the Hungarian readers as well. This list had all to best restaurants, museums, buffets, wineries, and more.
