Bakter Bistro in Alsóörs is a classic railway station pub called “resti” in Hungarian. The slightly dilapidated building by the tracks may not be enticing at first, but don’t worry: the pub is a favorite hangout of both holidaymakers and local residents. 100% Balaton nostalgia with tasty, filling dishes, cold beer and a retro ambience. The cuisine is pretty good: try the spinach or any of the traditional Hungarian meat dishes. If you’re not feeling particularly hungry, you can lounge on the terrace with a coffee or a fröccs, and watch the trains go by.
