Led by IT expert turned winemaker István Bencze, Bencze Estate is one of the young, exciting, and innovative wineries on Szent György-hegy. The cellar, which is located nearGilvesy Winery and Szászi Cellar, has 23 hectares of land – most of it is occupied by old Hungarian varieties: the fruits of Kéknyelű, red and blue Bakator varieties will be turned into wines that’ll travel to the best restaurants of the world (4,000-7,000 forints).
In addition to the cellar, the family also runs a couple of modern-rustic style guesthouses, which are prefect for taking a break from the bustle of the city (or the Balaton shore). There’s no hake, lángos, or draft beer, but you can get fine wines, silence, and tasty bites from local producers at their wine tastings. Tip: Before you set off to climb up the hill in hopes of a wine tasting session, make sure to book an appointment first (the same policy applies to most of the wineries nearby).
