Boat company BAHART have been working with the Hungarian Museum of Science, Technology and Transport to make their archive accessible to the public. These photos were recently published as part of the collaboration.
According to museum director, Dávid Vitézy, this collection recently made public isn’t only useful for researchers. Nine boxes of photos were taken to the museum this year, some black-and white negatives on glass, and there were reversalfilms, too. Part of the collection is now available online – most of the photos were taken between the wars, but there are older ones, too.
Many pictures were taken around 1930-40 by Dezső Kaáli Nagy, the first director of the Hungarian Royal Inspectorate of Balaton Ports. The images mostly served engineering purposes, capturing water works, ice damage and the general atmosphere of the lake.
