At this time of year, there are noticeably less events at Lake Balaton, still, there is even less need to worry if you wish to indulge in culture or party with the toughest policeman of the Balatonfüred police station.

Juli Bácskai's psycho theatre, Hévíz

We would not dare to call it light entertainment, but it is thought-provoking by all means: the Town Hall of Hévíz will host Juli Bácskai's Psycho Theatre performance this Friday. Why attend? The performance inquires into problems in an exciting, theatrical form instead of a dry, bookish approach. Plus: Simon Szabó from the movie 'Moszkva tér' is one of the cast. Moreover: free entry.

The Hungarian wine-maker of the year 2013 - wine night at the adademy of wine, Budapest

The Borbély Family Winery in Badacsony is less known than the nearby Szeremley Winery, but this might change soon, as their wine-maker, Tamás Borbély, who was admitted to the Badacsony Circle this year, is one of the nominees for the Hungarian WIne-maker of the Year 2013 title. Representing the Balaton wine region, he contends wine-makers like János Bolyki (Eger wine region) or Zoltán Heimann (Szekszárd). If you want to get to know him, you do not even have to travel to the Balaton now: Tamás Borbély and the other four nominees will be introduced in the Vajdahunyad Castle of Budapest this weekend--in the company of numerous good wines.

Hiking in Külső-Somogy

According to a popular misconception, there is nothing on the southern shore of Lake Balaton, but boring plains. You'll soon forget this, once you participate in the 20-kilometre hike among the hills of Somogy County, between Somogytúr and Balatonlelle. This is not a tourist attraction that has been photographed stone by stone by each and every guidebook. As the tour is organized by the Szent Kristóf Természetjáró Egyesület, you need not fear getting lost and the 20-km walk among the vineyards, woods and tiny chapels around Balatonlelle and Balatonboglár will surely hurt no-one.

Pogány Madonna-parti in Kredenc, Balatonfüred

Lieutenat Ötvös, the policeman with the hardest fist at the Balatonfüred police stationused to go to the Helka discotheque to relieve the stress of hunting art treasure thieves. There, he still beat the hell out of local tough guys if needed. Sinc ethen, Helka has been returned to the water, and the actor who played Ötvös, István Bujtor unfortunately died. The Ötvös Csöpi-cult, however is still alive. This time, it has cropped up in Kredenc Wine Bistro (Balatonfüred) in the form of a party series named after one of the Ötvös movies, Pogány Madonna. This party is worth a try, even if you have never seen any of the related movies or have never understood the hype around the local Bud Spencer. The music selection is old-school in the best sense of the word-not one compiled from radio tunes and TV shop offers. We hope that the spirit of the films will not force anyone to slap others out to the street through the closed doors.

Janikovszky Éva memorial exhibition, Veszprém

In the summer, there was an exhibition in memory of the writer in Balatonalmádi, and we wrote ezt írtuk: 'Every Hungarian child remembers Éva Janikovszky's tales. The funny pictures drawn by László Réber, the illustrator have helped to make her books even more popular. Check out the Éva Janikovszky memorial exhibition in Balatonalmádi if you want to know who the imaginary aunt was for thousands of 10-year-old children. Then buy a giant ice cream in Amaretto for yourself or your kid and forget about the stupid reasons about unhealthy doses of sugar, bad teeth and everything else. Well, all this is still valid, only the address changed from Balatonalmádi to Veszprém--the library in Március 15. út, to be exact. Choose any optional pastry shop instead of Amaretto.
