There is no wellness department, neither superior label. So don't expect to find a fancy massage bathtub or a steam cabin with antique design here, but the friendly environment will make you feel like you were staying in your own bungalow. Hotel Lidó is just good in itself. Its location is good, the rooms are comfortable, the breakfast is good and any middle-class person can spend a weekend here. This is the first chapter of our series about fair accommodations at Balaton.

In the past few months we visited many hotels, apartments and camping sites at Lake Balaton. We have enjoyed the wellness resorts of four-star hotels, but we had the chance to wake up in small bungalows and in tents next to the main stage as well. We had breakfast outdoors and we spent awfully lot of time in different swimming pools. On Monday we ate degustation menus for dinner, but on Tuesday we had an ordinary ham&cheese sandwich, then on Wednesday we drank champagne for breakfast at the smorgasbord. All in all, we have tried many different kinds of accommodations to find the best places for you.

After a couple of months we narrowed down the options to five different types of quality accommodations. The good camping site has clean showers, plugs, shades and a fine community space. The good apartman or bungalow make you feel like you were at home for a week. The fine hotel is on a good location, it has comfortable rooms, rich breakfasts and a few extra services. The super wellness hotel offers premium food, shiny wellness departments and only the clinking glasses break the peaceful silence. We'll get back to the fifth category later.

Hotel Lidó

Hotel Lidó belongs to the second category. It is a fair place in the center of Balatonlelle right next to the road, which leads to the shore. It's impossible to miss it, just look for a big yellow building. Lido looks like another ordinary renovated apartment building on the shore, but its look is more unified. There is no rusty bicycle and beach umbrella standing outside, or spider's net in the corners either. The classic balconies with the geraniums are still here, so you can stare at the crowd on the promenade anytime you want. This place feels like home from the first moment you step in.

This feeling only increases after you jump into the comfortable bed surrounded by pinewood furniture, and you listen to the noises of Balatonlelle. This is not always pleasant though: in the evening the tunes of the local bar's guitarist and the voice of the teenagers heading to Y Disco fill the area.

Hotel Lidó offers both standard and premium rooms. The premium rooms are slightly bigger, and only a bit more expensive, but the good old balcony only comes with the premium rooms. The standard rooms are located in the older building, which means they don't have a pretty view and the rooms have a bit of a dorm-feeling. The managers wanted to create the atmosphere of an ancient castle originally with swords and spears in the stairway, but it didn't exactly work out as they planned.
