Tradition has it that you'll be rewarded with good crop and a great feast if you eat the back end of a goose on St. Martin's Day, 11 November. There are enthusiastic people who'll hold dress rehearsals on Saturday: there will be numerous wine dinners (usually accompanied by new wine tastings) under the sign of St. Martin at Lake Balaton. There will be a goosey new wine tasting at the Gutman Winery in Kötcse, where you can also get a taste of wine jam in pancakes; and of course Badacsony is also a great destination, where you can fork in stove-roasted goose legs and pumpkin-chocolate cakes to soak up the wines in the frame of the Martin, Laposa and Goose Weekend event.

South shore's ultramodern Ax&Ax Winery moves to Vonyarcvashegy for one night, where the chefs of Bock Bistro Balaton will concoct such dishes to accompany the wines of Kötcse, like the foie de gras with wasabi dip or the pink goose breast with honeyed turnips. In Balatonalmádi, the Kerekes Winery starts with cold goose appetizers and a goose soup, which you can spoon in with porcini pockets, right before turning to the stove-roasted goose leg served with mashed potato with onion and rosé braised cabbage,  and the dessert surprise by the vintner's wife. In Balatonfüred, the Koczor Winery holds a wine tasting accompanied by many goose delicacies - what else. The wineries and restaurants of ZamárdiHévíz and Káptalantóti will also be St. Martin's positive and busy.

You can participate in a communal goose roast in Gyenesdiás,
where the dinner with music will be accompanied by a lantern-lit parade and a surprise show in the frame of the Green Night; while Felsőörs holds a traditional St. Martin's Day Feast to mark the end of autumn farm works.
