A major construction began recently in Balatonfenyves: mayor Gábor Lombár wants to realize the 18-year dream of locals of building a gigantic marina for 350 boats with the help of Előny Ltd. The holiday regulars of Fenyves are protesting on Facebook, but the piers are already reaching deep into the Lake.

Balatonfenyves builds a marina of rarely seen size. Here are some current construction photos and the facts:

  • The investment costs 2 billion HUF and includes the marina with capacity for 300-350 boats, a 20-room hotel and 1000m2 indoor playground. We are not sure what they mean by "floating accommodation", but it is also in the plans.

  • The breakers will be 450-metre-long, which, as the photos by Légi Projekt prove, is no joke.

  • This is how the hotel's construction looks now:

According to the protesters, the marina will have negative effects on the environemnt, (e.g. silting and current changes). The representative of the constructor, Egon Zsolt Kecskés answered that there had been thorough examinations before the permissions were acquired.
