In our continuing series of great Balaton lookout points, we focus on an iconic landmark at Balatonboglár: the Gömbkilátó, created during an Expo in 1958. This floodlit structure has an amazing view of the lake and its surroundings.

Standing atop Várdomb, the Gömbkilátó is the perfect spot for watching the sunrise or the sunset – even if the metal structure is always in the picture. This lattice work was added in the 1960s; before, the lookout tower had a wooden frame. Kálmán Szabó originally planned to create an enclosed café here to commemorate the 1958 Expo, but it didn't fit and that’s how it ended up being a lookout structure instead.

This lookout landmark has an entrance fee of 300 forints, children charged 200 forints. Although the structure is part of the Adventure Park, you don’t have to buy all-in-one admission in order to visit the lookout – but you can always stop by the park for a ride on the summer bobsleigh.

To reach it, turn off Main Road 7 at the statue of Count Pál Teleki or at the local sports field, into Kilátó utca and follow it until the Adventure Park.
