Summer at Lake Balaton and fine wine go hand in hand, and lovers of fragrant aromas already have plenty of places to choose from, premium wineries dotting the hillsides around the lake. This landscape has enchanted many, including Martin Edegger, whose Domaine Edegger Winery was born from a dream he has held since school.

The romantic history of Domaine Edegger goes back many years. Its founder, Martin Edegger, became acquainted with the region when he was a student, which planted the seed of creating a beautiful vineyard here when he was older.

“It was a complete coincidence that I came to the region that first time, not even realising then that the special terroir and the fascinating conditions of the area would be so captivating that I would partially relocate my base here,” says Martin.

The Edegger Winery is located in the centre of Badacsony, on the popular cycling and walking route of Római út. It’s a romantic and familial story that has been unfolding since the mid-2000s. Martin’s work is now aided by his younger son, Jakob, who is involved in the whole process of production, starting from cultivating the vines.

The Edegger vineyards are distributed around four areas, Nemesgulács, Badacsonytördemic, Salföld and Kápolna, the Martins’ estate spreading over ten hectares. In their cellars, they make five whites – Rajnai Rizling, Olaszrizling, Chardonnay, Szürkebarát, Sauvignon Blanc – and three reds, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Their wines have won the hearts of guests and have achieved considerable success in professional circles, performing excellently at domestic and international wine competitions.

“We are very proud that our wines have been BIO-certified since 2015. It is extremely important for us to make our wines with the most natural cultivation methods possible, respecting the conditions of the surroundings and the peculiarities of the vintage.”

In the winery, you can sample wine all year round and buy your favourites at favourable prices. In addition to wine, oenophiles are welcomed with platters created from high-quality ingredients, and home-baked bread.

The Edegger winery has undergone a complete refurbishment and is working hard to open its premium apartments. You’ll be able to snag an apartment with a fitted kitchen, terrace, spacious bathroom, sauna and jacuzzi, plus a perfect breakfast, but in the meantime, you can indulge in the charms of the landscape and the splendid tipples at the opening weekend.

"After serious preparation and transformation, we are looking forward to our opening weekend, completely renewed. Enjoy a spritzer or a more comprehensive sampling, nibble on a cheese platter and and let’s relax together at the sunset concerts starting early in the evening,” says Martin, invitingly.

The programme starts at 7pm on Friday, 3 July with music by Gábor Havai, while on the Saturday from 7pm, you can enjoy Gabi Torzsa’s acoustic concert. Bálint Fazekas, chef at Eldorádó, will be taking care of the bites that accompany the wine – pulled-pork sandwiches, grilled goats’ cheese with spaghetti and courgettes, and duck kebabs with lemongrass curry. More details can be found here!
