A new, timber-framed lookout tower has just been unveiled on Somos Hill outside Balatonberény, on the site of an old one. Each level of the four-storey construction has its own terrace, a tourist-friendly solution allowing visitors the time and space to take in the panorama.
The whole western basin of Lake Balaton can be seen from the new lookout tower on Route 76: the monadnocks of the Tapolca basin, Szigliget Castle and Sipos Hill in Fonyód. Even the Tihany peninsula can be picked out on a clear day. At the top of the tower, a map helps identify the various heights on view.
A rest spot, car park and restaurant are located alongside.
