A new harbour has just been unveiled at Lake Balaton, just in time for the summer ferry season. This year, direct services depart from Siófok to Tihany, and the Balatonföldvár-Tihany route has been extended to Balatonfüred, location for the new jetty.

Balaton’s latest harbour, Kékszalag in Balatonfüred, is named after the famous sailing race across the lake. The port can accommodate around 140 sailboats and 40-50 motor boats. Alongside, the 176th ferry season is now under way.

Zoltán Gerendy, the president of the Hungarian Sailing Association, announced: “This is not just a port, but a meeting point for domestic sailing. The gates of Kékszalag are open to the sailing community, everyone who loves the sport and Lake Balaton can find a home here, from recreational touring families to Hungary’s Olympians. For the Hungarian Sailing Association, and perhaps I can boldly say on behalf of the Hungarian Kayak-Canoe Association, this is a huge opportunity, because we can introduce our sports to even more people and get them involved,” he added.

The entire project will be completed by September, realised through the Hungarian Sailing Association, the Hungarian Kayak-Canoe Association and Balatonfüred municipality.
