The Nyitott Balaton event series is scheduled to kick off on May 1, and even though life around the lake tends to be slow in this period, the organizers are eager to guarantee that boredom is out of the question during the upcoming weeks. The highly anticipated Ice Cream of Balaton contest will once again be part of the program, with ten confectioneries throwing their hats into the ring to impress ice cream enthusiasts coming to the Balaton region.

1/11

La Rosa Ice Cream Parlor

La Rosa is entering two flavors, but at the moment there are three strong alternatives to choose from: one comprises oats, apple purée as well as dried and fresh fruits, the second features homemade ginger syrup, caramel, and Williams pear (it’s perfect for lactose-intolerant ice cream lovers as well), while the third is inspired by walnut cake and will be presented with a thin chocolate layer.

2/11

Florida Ice Cream Parlor

Florida is keeping things under wraps, but we’ve managed to convince them to unveil a few details. With one of their ice creams they are planning to recreate the terrain model of Badacsony with the help of “a popular ingredient”. To make it even more extraordinary, they’ll also add a few pinches of spice and “spectacular decoration”. The other ice cream will have a “clean and classic” flavor and elegant presentation – no wonder the word “presidential” was mentioned when we were talking about it.

3/11

Bringatanya

Bringatanya is whipping up two different ice creams for this year, and while they’ve been experimenting with lots of flavors, they haven’t been able to pick the top two yet. One thing is sure: local ingredients will play a central role.

4/11

Kárpáti Ice Cream Parlor

All the owner of Kárpáti told us was that they are entering the Ice Cream of Balaton contest with a chocolate creation spiced up with red wine, blackberry, and sour cherry.

5/11

Geleta Confectionery

Out of the four ice creams currently being tested, Geleta is entering two. The following four recipes are in the running: Sex On the Beach, which is an orange ice cream with apricot pálinka and red currant, ricotta with Hubertus liqueur, curd cheese with coriander and orange, and Lellei Nyár (roughly meaning “summer in Lelle”), made with Lelle Muscat and sour cherry.

6/11

Amaretto

The team of Amaretto has two concepts in mind for the competition: one of them incorporates the flavors of cheesecake with red currant, while the other is a special mix of dark chocolate and pistachio.

7/11

Hullám Buffet

“Csok-íz-lak”, the ice cream created by Hullám Buffet is a toothsome combination of several kinds of chocolate. The other flavor, called “Tök jó”, is made of excellent Hungarian pumpkin.

8/11

Cappuccino Café

Cappuccino Café is preparing an almond-based ice cream for the big occasion. The inspiration for the flavor is absolutely fresh and local, as the almond groves of Balatongyörök are already in bloom.

9/11

Bagaméri Ice Cream Parlor

This year they are going to participate in the competition with two icy treats: one of them is gorgonzola with milk, walnuts, and pear-infused wine cream; the other is the ice cream version of the popular cardinal slice.

10/11

Jordanics Confectionery

When we found out that they were part of the competition, we contacted them to inquire about the details, but haven’t received an answer.
