As a part of Nyitott Balaton, the Ice Cream of Balaton will also be chosen - this is our series about the contenders to the throne. Balatonfüred's Bagaméri re-imagined an American dessert, while Korzó chimes in with its almond ice with lavender raspberry jam.

Bagaméri Ice, Balatonfüred

Bagaméri Fagylaltozó is already at the height of its the game with a full counter of ice cream in Balatonfüred's Kisfaludy Street. After the special recognition for its dill-curd cheese creation last year, the ice cream parlour is yet again to enter the Ice Cream of Balaton contest. The brainstorming and experimenting are well under way: they let on that one of their entries will be a creamy spin-off of the red velvet cake, which is little known in Hungary, but quite popular in America.

They are undecided about the other entry, but  leaning towards a special lemon pie creation. In addition to the standard selection, Bagaméri attracts costumers with the raspberry-brittle cake, the Rákóczi curd cheese, or the sandthorn ice cream. Its terrace opposite to the Kisfaludy Gallery is an excellent strategic observation point if you want to enjoy the historical city centre of Balatonfüred.

Korzó Ice, Balatonfüred

A bit further down the road, on the Zákonyi Ferenc Promenade you can bump into the another special prize winning ice cream parlour of 2014, Korzó. Last year, they were recognised for their poppy fantasy - a milk-based poppy seed ice layered with caramel.

This year, they lunge forward with an almond ice with lavender raspberry jam, topped with crunchy white chocolate. Two thirds of Korzó's selection come from the generally available flavours, like punch, chocolate and vanilla.   The remaining third, however, is all about experimenting. Naturally, you can still have a scoop of the award-winning poppy fantasy.

Amaretto, Balatonalmádi

Balatonalmádi 's Amaretto ice hasn't revealed its ice cream championship entries yet, but they will surely be stepping into the ring this year as well. Last summer, we had some their nutella-vanilla combo called Nutgel, but they have a lot more specialities on offer.

Warning! The tiny parlour at 1, Városház Square is not to be confused with the also tiny Amaretto Café on an other corner of the same square. In the summer heat, the proximity of the ice cream parlour to the train station is highly appreciated as a relief from the heat and as entertainment while waiting.

Bringatanya, Gyenesdiás

Bringatanya in Gyenesdiás is yet to reveal its entries for the contest, but owners have revealed that local ingredients would play a central role. The place has 24+ ice cream variations on offer, including favourites like butter-scotch, the Venetian dream, or Triász, the ice cream of 2012 (which consists of almonds, sour cherry and chocolate).

Good news for people suffering from diabetes or lactose intolerance: they also make sugar- and milk-free ice creams. The name Bringatanya (meaning sg. like Bikeplace) comes from the location: the parlour is right by the bike path, near the Gyenesdiás beach, in Madách Street.
