The Tihany Open-air Festival was launched by István Bujtor several decades ago: for almost two months every summer, outdoor theatre performances await theatre buffs on the Tihany Peninsula.

Until 2003, the plays had been performed in the square in front of the Abbey, but this solution soon turned out to be insufficient. Looking for a less busy, but more permanent spot, the organizers found a plot by Lake Belső that can accommodate almost 800 viewers and has a beautiful view of the lake and the lakeside hills.

The most scenic stage in the country adopted the name of the festival founding Hungarian Piedone in 2010 – the establishment is adorned with a sculpture of Bujtor.
