The only things that really, really upset the ever so jovial baker József Rácz are additives.

At the family bakery of Balatonkeresztúr, right next to Road 7, father and daughter bake traditional sourdough, spelt, and rye breads, pastries and cakes, scones, and pogácsa (a type of bread, a traditional treat in Hungary), while the shelves are lined with additive-free honeys, jams, juices, cheese, yogurt, wines, and sausages that come straight from the producers.

Their sandwich-selection changes daily, but one must be quick, as they sell out pretty fast. Baked based on the recipe of József’s mother, the Ischlers (a chocolate covered cookie often filled with jam) will tempt even those who aren’t big fans of this dessert.
