Első Magyar Látványtár

Sights & Culture - Museums & Exhibition halls

The once rundown building of Stankovics Mill houses the unique exhibition space that is Első Magyar Látványtár. Founded in 1990, the institute was born from the private collection of Ákos Vörösváry, and the fine art heritage of Hungarian painter, Sándor Altorjai. Here, they collect almost everything that has something to do with contemporary arts, including photography, furniture, ethnography, and applied arts, but not within traditional frameworks: even organizing exhibitions is viewed as an art here. There’re two statute-figures with a glass of wine in hand on the wall of the coffee house, there’re contemporary statues, and a few peculiar objects in the garden. The collection of several thousand pieces includes the works of the most noted artists of the past few decades, and they regularly put them on display within the frameworks of temporary exhibitions.
