Jókai Mór Memorial House

Sights & Culture - Museums & Exhibition halls

Hungarian author Mór Jókai and his wife Róza Laborfalvi belonged inseparably to Balaton summers in the 1870s. They were both so enchanted with the “Hungarian Sea” that they decided to have a summer house built by the lake.

Their villa in Balatonfüred was where Jókai wrote The Man with the Golden Touch, one of his most famous novels, and it was the summer home of the renowned couple for almost 20 years. After his wife’s death, Jókai only visited the house once.

The museum, which was set up in the building in 1954, won the Múzeum Café Award after it was redesigned in 2011.
