Hegyesd Castle Ruins

Sights & Culture - Sights

All that remains from the Hegyesd Castle atop of the 281-meter-high basalt hill are its one-meter-high walls. In 1562, a team of soldiers led by László Gyulaffy recaptured the castle from the occupying Turks, only to be razed to the ground by Salm, captain general of Győr.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t rebuilt ever since, but the stairs are worth climbing for the breathtaking view of the Tapolca-medence and Lake Balaton.

Tip: The study trail leading to the ruins introduces the area’s flora and fauna, as well as interesting things to about the castle’s history.
