Kis-Balaton is one of Hungary’s most colorful and exciting nature reserves. No wonder that the marshes and rich flora and fauna of the region – especially the abundant bird population – inspired the works of renowned writer István Fekete.
The memorial house of the author awaits visitors on Diás Island, which is also home to Kis-Balaton House and an exhibition showcasing the animals and plants, as well as the ethnography of the area. There are several observation towers nearby, including the birdwatching tower in Vörs, that offer a splendid panorama of the lakes and provide a perfect spot for observing some of the region’s most special birds. The surroundings of the lake are ideal for bike trips as well.
