Szent Kereszt Chapel - Kisapáti

Sights & Culture - Sights

Szent György-hegy is famous for its exceptional basalt organs, and this is also where you can find the oldest building of the region.

Located in Kisapáti, on the eastern hillside, this tiny, fairytale chapel was most probably erected in the 13th century, in the decades following the Mongol invasion, and for a long time it was owned by the Benedictine Abbey of Pannonhalma.

You’ll have to put your hiking boots on to visit this scenic, little church, as it’s situated outside the village, a bit further up on the hill, but the green vineyards, the undulating landscape and this stunning remnant of the medieval times in Hungary will surely be a fair consolation prize.
