There’s a several-hundred-year-old cellar on the hill above Gyenesdiás, which over the years has been expanded to include a nicely renovated house. This is Darnay cellar: it started out as a kind of visitor center for the presentation of all things winemaking and viticulture, and it was later given a new image by owner Zoltán Somogyi aka Max. Max regularly holds courses in the science of gastronomy, but if you only want a glass of wine and a delicious meal, you’ll also find what you’re looking for here (for example, Ficánka, one of the competing dishes at this year’s beach food contest). Not a fan of alcohol? The cellar serves excellent homemade syrups, too.
