The mix between Balatonfüred's romance and a Budapestian wine bar gave birth to Kredenc Borbisztró only one street away from the sparkling center of Balatonfüred. While you're sitting in the shade of the striped beach umbrella with a glass of wine from Csopak in front of you, there's only one appropriate thought in your head: the owner of this place knows how to live.
Whether it is true or false András Bobai - former MC of the electro band Brains - could answer better than us while you're having a glass of wine with him at Kredenc. Since it is a fresh family business 9 times out of 10 he's standing behind the bar, so it's quite difficult not to run into him around here. It makes this spot quite cozy though.
The bistro was opened three years ago, its story paints a quite familiar picture, but the characters of it are mostly courageous and confident, which - let's face it - is quite rare nowadays. Young family with a newborn moves from Budapest to the county in order to find a calm and peaceful life while they are pursuing a long living dream about a wine bistro (the circumstances were not ideal for it in the capital). The way András Dobai puts this, it sounds like an episode from Road to Avonlea, really: they moved to a small apartment in Balatonfüred during the winter of 2010, and they found the future bistro's place while they were trampling between the snow walls in Blaha Lujza Street. They fell in love with the city's historical landscape then in April they hosted the opening party of Kredenc.
"We spent a whole year with hard work especially with marketing, meetings, showing around the place crowned with the family's tale, and soon I managed to hook those up who saw prospects in my idea" - writes the owner on Facebook. He needed one and a half year to get the place going. It shows that there were tough days and months behind this romantic and tempting surface considering Balaton's given condition: the constant adaption to the current season and the number of guests.
No surprises: in a wine bistro everything is about the wines. The local wine makers often come here, and jazz nights with wine clubs are the perfect chance for a winery to make its appearance. These programs are not that common in summer, because the goal is to keep the guests coming during off-season as well. They try to cooperate with the locals: the elixirs come from Tamás Wine Cellar, or one time the renowned Kistücsök Restaurant brought matching food with Kredenc's wine offer. Speaking of food, Kredenc is like a Hungarian tapas bar, you will see the occasional offers written on a board.
