A visit to the Káli-medence is just like therapy: everyone slows down, the fresh air makes you go languid and careful not to rush or fret about everyday problems. At Három Huszár, everything is at your disposal for relaxation with friends, your partner or your child(ren). A lovely, German-speaking couple operates this Inn in the centre of Köveskál. We spent there two nights, recharging.

By car, it only takes 10 minutes to reach Három Huszár from Révfülöp: not far from the buzzing beach and the scents of the Rózsakert (Rose Garden), the neat  rolls of hay signal that you've left the realm of lángos and hake behind. In recent years, the Káli-medence has improved a lot both in terms of infrastructure and hospitality. It is great to see that the wine cellars, small pubs, restaurants and pensions follow the classical notion of hospitality, which includes a hearty reception, attention, swiftness and expertise. You won't meet the imprinted negative attitude here: in Köveskál, each and every elderly lady or winemaker you find relaxing on a bench will greet you kindly and show you the way

We arrived to Három Huszár Inn late in the afternoon. Anke welcomed us with a wide smile, and gave us a short tour of the house before showing us our spacious apartment. We are talking about an authentic old farmhouse with a thatched roof and thick packed walls, wonderfully renovated. Három Huszár displays a mixture of the style-markers of Hungarian farmhouses and German precision. Anke and Wolfgang purchased their dream home 10+ years ago and have continued to touch it up ever since. In this, they follow their own ideas and mostly do everything themselves, as Wolfgang is originally a carpenter. The building complex is a protected historical monument.

The couple also lives in Három Huszár, which is fairly unsurprising given that such a fairyland garden and micro-climate are hard to find, and one could hardly imagine a more beautiful and relaxing scenery. Originally, Anke and Wolfgang used to live in Germany, but upon a visit to a friend here, they spotted the "for sale" sign on the gate. After some deliberation, they completely wound up their German life and moved to Köveskál.

If you're one for refined minimalism, you might be visually shell-shocked by the scenery of the garden and the buildings of Három Huszár: it showcases antique furniture, keepsakes, knickknackery, pieces of pottery, and old agricultural tools. The explanation? Anke and her husband adore the unique accessories and furniture sold at flea markets and various fairs. When we headed out to Káptalantóti, Anke nodded in approval, sweeping a proud look over the garden that must have an abundance of bric-a-brac from the nearby market. Apropos garden: the space among and around the thatched houses have  a huge, shady spot for sitting around and several separate nooks as well - this arrangement ensures some privacy to everyone in case there are several different families or groups staying at Három Huszár.  You can cook over an open fire, plus  there is a sand box and children's toys for the entertainment of all. On top of it all, three of the best spots of Köveskál,  Kővirág, Mi A Kő and the wine terrace of Pálffy Pincészet are within a few hundreds of metres from Három Huszár.
