At Apátsági Rege. the cakes are made with Furmint and apricot chutney, the ice creams are topped with lavender liqueur – and goulash and goose leg are also served.

The terrace at Apátsági Rege Confectionery has one of the most beautiful views of Lake Balaton. The confectionery, which belongs to Tihany Abbey, was recently remodelled into a Viennese-style coffee house.

You can choose from among 15 types of desserts (790-990 HUF) and the view is a bonus. Besides the likes of lavender cremeschnitte and lavender cheese cake, the selection also includes iconic local treats such as the Rege Cake, with walnut and linden honey, and the Bencés Cake (Benedictine Cake), featuring a hazelnut soufflé sheet and apricot chutney with Tokaj Furmint, topped with cranberry and chocolate ganache.

There’s always something on the counter for those who follow a paleo diet and there are gluten- and lactose-free options as well. The confectionery only uses the finest ingredients for their desserts.

There are also ten items on the main menu, including the Benedictine goulash (2,200 HUF), made with an abundance of vegetables and mushrooms, and the Rege Burger (3,000 HUF), a richly stuffed bagel with a beef patty. They also serve lavender zander (4,000 HUF) and pork tenderloin wrapped in blue cheese (4,000 HUF). The sous-vide goose leg (4,000 HUF) is served with red-cabbage strudel.

As the confectionery belongs to the abbey, the selection includes many items connected to Tihany and the Order. Besides lavender products, herbal teas by Father Gellért, wines by Pannonhalma, beers by Tihany Abbey and cordials created by Cistercian nuns from Kismaros are also available.
