The Lake Balaton Gastro Map showcases every year at Tihany Piac Placc, with representatives from many of the featured outlets providing a taste of their selection. Winemakers Zelna, Borbély and Skizo, Kreinbacher champagnes and Hedon beers were among those present.
Orsi Zeliska, founder of the Péklány bakery, created brioches made with Tihany lavender and fruit pies for the occasion, while the Kedves Confectionery brought fruit pies, and Pörc homemade sausages and crackling. Balatonlelle’s Kedvesem Bistro introduced their catfish balls, and the Juice Bar Balaton from Balatonszemes had tasty smoothies and juices. The Taco truck, a new spot on the map near Szigliget, also rolled into the event, bringing Mexican flavours and spicy sauces to Tihany.
Everything you need to know
According to map creator Judit Szauer, 15 new places have been added to this year’s issue, restaurants, wineries, cafés, confectioneries, distilleries and food trucks. The Gastro Map isn’t a comprehensive list – in fact, many well-known outlets aren’t even on it due to pressure of space.
The map has the contact information of every venue, and pictograms to help you get around. It shows where to go for vegetarian dishes and the places that are wheelchair-accessible or dog-friendly. It also indicates whether there’s a panoramic view, a children’s menu or if the venue closes in winter.
