Located on Germering utca in Balatonfüred, Vino Terazza near Kisfaludy Beach offers respite from the heat. With its Mediterranean mood and light dishes, the restaurant attracts many a returning customer.
Owner Ákos Tamási has many childhood memories of Balaton. With a pheasant house currently being refurbished in Tihany to serve as his family home, having a restaurant in neighbouring Balatonfüred makes a lot of sense. After finishing his studies, Tamási worked abroad, in Austria, Germany and on luxury cruise ships. Later he managed an inn and a conference hotel, before deciding to settle down at Lake Balaton.
In 2017, he purchased an old inn that stood here and refurbished it himself. The place was unveiled on the first Friday of June that year. He and the chef cooked the food and the opening day was a huge success.
Grilled meat and mozzarella
The owner also teaches the young staff – quality is paramount. A friendliness imbues the place and families are more than welcome, enhancing the Mediterranean feel.
Appetisers are also Italian-influenced: the selection includes original Italian ham platters and buffalo mozzarella. Fresh fish is always available, as are schnitzel and goulash.
The burgers are made with Angus beef, the grill platter is substantial, packed with garlic- and mustard-grilled meat, grilled chicken breast, ćevapi and grilled sausages, served with coleslaw and steak fries seasoned with rosemary, thyme and oregano. They have lighter dishes such as bistro chicken, vegetable ragout and prosciutto. Zander is served whole.
The queen of their desserts is the milk pie, made according to the recipe of the owner’s grandmother: three rolls with caramel sauce and grilled peaches on top. The other desserts are the chocolate surprise (a soufflé filled with hot chocolate) and the lemon crystal (homemade sorbet).
A fish fryer is set up in the garden, ideal for cyclists who just want to pop in for a quick bite as the Balaton Bike Ring passes by here. Those with electric bikes can charge their vehicles for free.
Prosecco on tap
Aperol Spritz is the owner’s weakness, and here they put freshly tapped prosecco into it, always fresh in the glass, resulting in a traditional Italian refreshment. Cocktails are mixed by the bartender, the pálinka is from Agárd while premium Bitbürger beer is always fresh on draught.
Feind wines are served here, as the owner is good friends with the family. Reds come from Szekszárd, but there are items from Villány, such as the cuvée from the Zágonyi winery. They also offer Figula, Laposa, Dúzsi and Gere Kopar. The coffee is made with the Italian Remi brand’s dark roast Robusta and Arabica mix. There are also juices with high fruit content.
The restaurant can host up to 80 people – a wedding has already been held here. The terrace accommodates 35 to 40, and the party can go on in the cellar with noise no problem. Sometimes they invite musicians and jazz is a regular feature.
