In the light of a new government ruling on limiting public events to under 500 people, Balaton Sound 2020 has been cancelled. Summer’s biggest music festival by the lake was scheduled to have taken place 8-12 July.
The event is run by the same team behind Budapest’s huge Sziget Festival and the VOLT Festival in Sopron, both also cancelled. Around Balaton, among other planned cultural happenings for the summer now put on ice are the Valley of Arts and VeszprémFest.
Balaton Sound organisers are currently working on a solution to recompense disappointed ticketholders and have asked for people’s patience. See here for details.
In more positive news, restaurant terraces and beaches around Balaton may reopen, albeit under certain guidelines, and shops may expand their opening hours.
