A layer of ice has just formed along the south shore of Lake Balaton but it isn’t thick enough to venture out onto, with strict fines in place for anyone who tries to do so. A new time-lapse video posted up by local police shows ice forming on the water. Colder weather and rising winds should make the thin ice sheet more solid in the coming days.
This new time-lapse video created by Police.hu shows how dangerous it might be to venture out onto thin ice at Balaton right now. Violation of safety rules may result in fines of up to 150,000 forints.
