We'd like to disprove anyone who claims that apart from wellness hotels there is no place around Lake Balaton to say goodbye to the old year. We compiled a list of venues for those who are still hesitating; there are still places to grab. Your options include endless bottles of champagne, unparalleled gourmet dishes and an abundance of board games.

Echo Residence - Tihany

The excellent restaurant of Tihany's Echo Residence, Karolina Fűszerkertje is always good for a vote with us thanks to its fantastic Austrian chef. For New Year's Eve, the restaurant prepares with a candlelit 5-course gala dinner, where Gábor Gábriel Farkas will entertain guests with Pál Szécsi and Péter Máté evergreens - perfect for those who'd like to enjoy magnificent dishes in the vibes of the 1970ies. The night at this hotel of luxury suites is not exactly cheap, but it  does not exceed the cost of a wellness weekend.

Ax & Ax Winery - Kéthely

The Kéthely-based Ax&Ax Winery prepares with two parties of different style in two halls: one of the New Year's Eve programs at the complex equipped with a running tapas bar and a cinema is a retro party. while the other is promised to be the craziest party with the Gerappa Party Band (dubbed the best party band of Hungary by the Ax&Ax Facebook event). Both programs include cold and hot platters to snack on, and a fire juggling show will warm everyone up before the midnight fireworks.

Those who are more interested in great parties than delicious bites, can get away with a half-price ticket that includes the midnight menu only as far as food goes. Although the cocktail bar may be indispensable to get the party started, we have an inkling that the chocolate fountain will be the spot with the constant buzz.

Mala Garden - Siófok

Siófok's oriental-style luxury oasis, the restaurant of Mala Garden wants to fly guests back straight to the 1920ies. Remember The Great Gatsby with its grand parties hosted by the mysterious protagonist? We don't know whether there would be champagne in the fountain at Mala Garden, but we know for sure the following will all be there for your pleasure: a 5-course gourmet dinner, live music between courses, and a 1920ies and '30ies dance show. The star of the evening will be singer Adél Csobot.

Bock Bistro Balaton and Zenit Hotel Balaton - Vonyarcvashegy

The Bock Bistro Balaton in Vonyarcvashegy fires up New Year's Eve with a 4-course gourmet dinner. Beef tenderloin Stroganoff, foie gras sushi, and duck paté are only some of the exquisite items on the festive menu. The dinner comes with a gypsy band, plus there will also be a talent show participant, Szilvia Agárdi. Midnight will be welcomed with spectacular fireworks and champagne. The dinner might not be the cheapest, but it includes unlimited consumption of the favourite wines of the house, draught beer and champagne as well.

Thanks to the cooperation of Bock Bistro and Zenit Hotel, there is more to this night - naturally, it requires to dig deeper into your pocket. There aren't too many move-like New Year's Eves, like popping down to Bock Bistro for a gourmet dinner, then cooling off a sauna session on a balcony of the hilltop Zenit Hotel, enjoying the Balaton panorama, and to clink glasses to the New Year in the jacuzzi. In addition to the Bock, the Hotel hosts one more party: in the Festetics hall, where you can enjoy a buffet dinner and music by the Music Box Party Band, plus Szilvi Agárdi from The Voice will also perform here.

Káli Art Inn - Köveskál

Káli Basin is on the forefront of accommodations open also in the winter. The stylish Kali Art Inn is not the budget-friendly option, but it offers rooms with direct connection to a garden with almond trees to those who want palpable silence. They also offer a New Year's Eve menu, but no party, since they await couples craving intimacy and peace. On demand, they will shut your mobile into a safe to help you tune into each other.

Szászi Cellar - Hegymagas

A but farther, in Hegymagas, the Szászi vineyard still has one free guesthouse. We already slept in the well-equipped fairytale cottage for 4-5 persons, and would recommend it to groups of friends, too. There is no need to travel far for alcohol: the small shop next to the house sells the entire range of Szászi wines. The place is surrounded by complete tranquillity and endless rows of vine, which is perfect for those who wish to spend the last night of the year with long talks among friends.

Csátó Guesthouses - Tihany

Those preferring a silent New Year's Eve don't have to equip themselves with earplugs and draw all the curtains: it is enough to grab a few friends and head to Lake Balaton. We visited the Csátó Guesthouses at the time of the May cyclones, when the weather was close to winterlike, so we can safely state that noone will be cold in these stylish, well-equipped studios. Luckily, both the Szászi and the Csátó Guesthouses offer complete houses at a truly friendly price in the winter season.

Káli-kapocs - Mindszentkálla

Spontaneous persons preferred in Mindszentkálla! The house will soon be warmed up, the taps filled, and the doors of Káli-kapocs opened for New Year's Eve. The program is yet to be settled, but they plan on holding a Kapocs-style party with two DJs, lots of alcohol, lentils and hot dog sausages.

12/16

Kredenc Wine Bistro - Balatonfüred

The Kredenc Wine Bistro in Füred is also in preparations for New Year's Eve. We don1t know how they still manage this in the winter, but András Dobai (the owner) continues to promise Bohemian sub-Mediterranean café vibes with lentils and pork, vegetarian specials and best of Kredenc wines. After dinner, dance to the Balkan disco tunes of DJ SenkiNemÉrRáMa (DJ NooneSAvailableToday).

13/16

Lógó Üveg - Siófok

The very first ruin pub of Siófok, which opened at the end of summer, will host a vinyl party with music ranging from the funky of the 1960ies and 1970ies to today.
