At the off-the-wall press conference of the Valley of Arts, we enjoyed impros by the Momentán Company, a word association game to the theme of Kapolcs, the jokes and music of András Hajós, and craft beer. The point is: the Valley turns 25 this year, and wants to evolve so it can entertain you for as many more. Here are the changes.

Blue sPot Major

Valley of Arts' main stage was so far found in the yard of the Kapolcs kindergarten, but since its capacity proved to be insufficient last year, this venue will move to a small plain by the forest. The line-up is something of a Petőfi Radio jockey's dream with Irie Maffia, Kiscsillag, Quimby, and Ivan and the Parazol. All this paired with a Kapolcs-Valley vibe will amount to a smashing festival experience.

Hello Wood

Hello Wood has become an indispensable part of the Valley, and although there were speculations about moving the initiative recognised by Architizer Awards as the coolest creative camp for architects elsewhere, there is no need to worrs: Péter Pozsár and co. return with a fantastic creative concept to Csórompuszta. This year, the participants of Hello Wood will recreate the social centres of a village,.using wood alone. But! This year the finished constructions will be transported to Vigántpetend, where they will serve as an independent venue of the Valley with morning yoga classes, talks and an an alternative musical line-up (FIXI 4, Morningdeer).

Gastro 2.0

Kapolcs strives to keep up with the gastronomical trends of Budapest that shape the Bermuda triangle of Kazinczy Street - Király Street - Gozsdu Udvar, hence, various craft beer brands and street food units will also make an appearance in the Valley. The craft beers will be available in several locations, like the WAMP Design fair, while the food trucks will park by the Blue sPot Main Stage. The latter section is organized by Kazinczy Street'Ís well-known Karaván, and include the breaded cheese mogul Paneer and the self-proclaimed first Hungarian street food brand, Kolbice.

Klastrom

We already know that this will be our other favourite Valley venue, the first being Hello Wood. The first five days by a church ruin in Taliándörögd will be filled by Fonó with fun concerts by the likes of Félix Lajkó, or the Muzsikás plus Budafolk Band coop. The second five days will bring something completely different: Selected Sounds will unleash the musical range of Budapest's cult spots. The line-up includes Manek (the event planner of Toldi and Lärm) and the Brit DJ-producer UNTOLD. What makes us especially excited about this venue is the Balaton Method theme day on 29 July with concerts by two bands from the film, and the screening of the film itself at 9:30 PM. You can ctach the latter two days later as well.

Pintér Béla Company

Getting hold of a ticket for a Pintér Béla Company show in Budapest is perhaps more difficult than ranking the lángos places of Lake Balaton. This is all you need to know in advance, now go and see them. They'd tell you the same: 'If you like it, check it out again. If you don't like it, go have yourself checked.' They will perform their piece Parasztopera in Kapolcs on 31 July, 1 August and 2 August.

Kapolcs vs. the 21st century

The offer is expanding, for instance the Kaláka yard will have an alternative like DJ Bootsie. The local transport method, Csigabusz (Snailbus) will return, along with three electric cars to help you move between venues. The only travel condition is to answer sustainability quizzes. The 21st century will make other appearances as well: you can pre-purchase your parking ticket via the Simple smartphone app, payment by card will also be possible and there are promises of complete wireless internet reception.

Momentán Udvar

The participation of the Momentán Company is a surprise in itself, and they will have their own venue on top of it. Expect a daily dose of associations, witty jokes and smart guests. The programmes include improvisations to stories from the lives of gastro blogger Zsófia Mautner, poet János Lackfi and singer-songwriter Veronika Harcsa, as well as the appearance of the winner of the 3rd Slam Nationals, Kristóf Horváth, or talks about the best Hungarian short films or recent years.

András Hajós and the Modern Art Orchestra

The blues oriented Hobo Club in Kapolcs will now have a new neighbour in the person of singer/songwriter/comedian András Hajós and a 9-year-old, award-winning jazz orchestra. They both like to improvise, so they will be joined by the Momentán Company for an impro night called Maomentán. In the daytime, you can enjoy interactive music and Hajós jokes. Or Hajós music and interactive jokes. Depends on the situation.
