Kredenc Inn, Balatonfüred

Blaha Lujza Street, where Kredenc Wine Bistro is located, is one of the most atmospheric streets of Balatonfüred, so it’s no wonder that one feels reluctant to leave it behind. Fortunately, this popular wine bar recently opened an inn above their bistro, with cozy little rooms named after the favorite music styles of the owner including bossa nova, jazz, and swing. The rooms are simple yet comfortable, with all the necessary things one might need – and for the rest, we just have to step out of the doors and explore the bustling town.

4/10

Gombás Mansion, Balatonfüred

Compared to the bustle and constant motion of Balatonfüred, it almost feels as though time stands still at Gombás Mansion, in the best sense of the expression. The oldest manor house in the entire Balaton Uplands region, the building can be found at the foot of Tamás-hegy, and bears the characteristics of Zopfstil and late baroque. Behind the ancient exterior there’s a modern interior with a Tuscan-style terrace and courtyard looking out onto Balaton, an arched wine cellar, and wellness facilities. The mansion can accommodate about 30 people in eleven twin and double rooms, each of which come with a kitchenette. 100-square metre luxury apartments are also available, if that is what you are after.

5/10

MANOR House Inn, Csopak

Only about five kilometers away from Balatonfüred, MANOR House Inn in Csopak is a sophisticated guesthouse with the air of a movie set. The kitchen is spacious and shared, the living room is super-comfortable, plus there’s a beach and many wine cellars nearby. The rooms are in the large villa and in a guesthouse, each of them was named after its color, and they are priced around 20,000-30,000 forints for a night. They also get a plus point for greeting guests with a welcome fröccs at their cozy terrace.

6/10

Villa Vitae, Balatonfüred

Located in one of the far corners of Balatonfüred, Villa Vitae is a set of cozy Mediterranean mansions surrounded by romantic vineyards completed by an amazing view. This, plus the clay roof tiles and shuttered windows of the villas make us feel like we are in Provence. Besides the suites and rooms, the tasteful resort also has an amazing restaurant, a wellness section, an outdoor pool, and even a movie theater. All of this is less than seven kilometers away from the dock and the busy Tagore Promenade of Balatonfüred.

7/10

Csátó Guest House, Tihany

Anyone visiting Csátó Guesthouse in the vicinity of the Tihany Abbey will feel like entering an open-air museum – but have no fear, the three historic loam-walled houses are in line with modern standards for maximum comfort, meaning that all six apartments are equipped with old ovens for baking bread, huge wooden boxes decorated with Hungarian folk motifs, and microwave ovens. Everything is revamped here based on the same philosophy that was used in Tihany. The price of these stylish apartments range between 21,000 HUF and 25,000 HUF for a night, and they are about ten kilometers away from Balatonfüred.

8/10

Levendula Guesthouse, Lovas

The name choice Levendula (lavender in Hungarian) is not another unimaginative attempt at giving a guesthouse a trendy moniker – it refers to the lavender field in the back of the holiday cottage’s own garden. What is more, one of the owners is a licensed small-scale producer, so chances are you’ll find a bottle of homemade lavender syrup in the kitchen cabinet. Created by a Hungarian-French couple, the guesthouse has thematic rooms. The owners reside in the house, downstairs, completely separately from the guests, who can stay in any of the four guestrooms: one downstairs and three upstairs. The upstairs area has a common kitchen, so it’s a more ideal choice for bigger groups. Balatonfüred and all its action is barely ten kilometers away from this peaceful paradise.

9/10

Skrabski Tulipán House, Balatonudvari

Tulipán House is located by the vineyard of the Skrabski family above Balatonudvari. Here guests are greeted with a bottle of wine upon arrival. The six-person apartment with a Balaton panorama is a great getaway for a weekend with friends, and bustling Balatonfüred is a mere ten kilometers away. But back to Tulipán House! Antiques and modern pieces of furniture add an eclectic style to all three rooms, and the terrace has all the equipment for a grill party. A night costs 30,000 HUF, but guests are required to book a minimum of five nights.

10/10

Villa Szent Jakab, Vászoly

Although it’s a little over 15 kilometers away from Balatonfüred, Vászoly is one of those Balaton villages that are worth driving down narrow country roads for: here you can recharge amid a beautiful natural environment. The new building stands out from the old, loam-walled houses of the area, but its architecture is very much in line with the traditions of the Balaton Uplands. The villa comprises six guestrooms with bathrooms, and ingredients for breakfast are supplied by Vászolyi Cheese Manufactury. Depending on size, the price of the rooms can vary between 16,000 HUF and 34,000 HUF for a night.
