The house in Balatonszárszó, where one of the greatest Hungarian poets of the 20th century, Attila József spent his last month, stands in the street that bears his name today, only 2 minutes from the train station, where a freight train ran over and killed him. The one-time Horváth Pension, now the Attila József Memorial House is home to a captivating exhibition.
Instead of dust-covered objects and pieces of furniture, the impressions of Attila József's tragic personality look back from the wall: reminiscences by his relatives and loves, excerpts from his psychological appointments and his handwritten lines. There are headphones allowing you to listen to his poems in various languages. In the park next to the nearby train station stands Attila József's memorial.
Tip: Following your visit to the memorial house, stroll down to the monumental, looming poem-train construction and read lines by the poet off its sides.
