Heroes’ Gate is among the symbolic buildings of Veszprém, just like the Fire Lookout Tower and Saint Michael’s Basilica. Inaugurated in 1939, the monument commemorated the fallen soldiers of the First World War; today they also honor the heroes of the revolution and war of independence of 1848-49, the Second World War, and the revolution of 1956 with an exhibit. The museum was refurbished in 2013, and after reopening, it preserved its original values, while also making sure it suits the needs of today’s visitors. The exhibit is on the lower level of the building, while a panoramic terrace awaits visitors upstairs.
