Renowned poet István Simon was born in Bazsi in 1926. Today, the poet’s birth home in the village next to Sümeg is a memorial house with an exhibition on the history of literature and a “touchable” ethnographic display.
The former includes his manuscripts, postcards from Simon’s trips to Paris and the Far East, his official documents as a member of the Parliament, while the latter shows the environment Simon grew up in with various furniture and household objects.
Tip: There’s a memorial celebration every year on the weekend closest to the poet’s birthday.
