Kis-Balaton is one of Hungary’s most colorful and exciting nature reserves. No wonder that the marshes and rich flora and fauna of the region – especially the abundant bird population – inspired the works of renowned writer István Fekete.
The memorial house of the author awaits visitors on Diás Island, which is also home to Kis-Balaton House and an exhibition showcasing the animals and plants, as well as the ethnography of the area. There are several observation towers nearby that offer a splendid panorama of the lakes and provide a perfect spot for observing some of the region’s most special birds. The surroundings of the lake are ideal for bike trips as well.
