Historia est magistra vitae, that is history is life's teacher. It is in the spirit of this saying that the first and biggest museum in Veszprém County called Laczkó Dezső Museum has served the public.
Comprising close to half a million items, the collection includes everything that is Veszprém from rare coins and minerals through beautiful folk pottery ware to coffee stained manuscripts of Balaton-inspired poems.
The Art Nouveau institution that is an integral part of the town’s circulation continually hosts cultural and educational programmes, and as a result, it was selected as the winner of the Museum of the Year Award in 2006. The Fire Lookout Tower and Bakony House, the first open-air museum in Hungary also belong to the cultural centre.
