Anyone peering through the windows of the Balatonszemes village hall that overlook the main road will catch a familiar gaze: that of Zoltán Latinovits. The legendary actor had a mysterious connection with the Balaton town, spending part of his childhood and his last days there. The memorial house showcases the main chapters and moments in the life of the artist interred at the local cemetery through personal items and relics related to Balatonszemes. Head toward the pier to admire a statue crafted by Miklós Melocco, which portrays Latinovits on stage. The village also honours the memory of Latinovits’ half-brother István Bujtor with an annual film festival. A sad, yet curious fact: poet Attila József lost his life in a fashion similarly tragic to Latinovits in the neighbouring village of Balatonszárszó.
