Hidden in the tiny forest of Apáti-hegy, Őrtorony Lookout Tower was built along the old Roman military road. The appearance and structure of the imposing, three-storey, 16.5 meters tall tower reminds of the watch towers that used to stand long the military road – thus the name Őrtorony, which means “Watch Tower”.

The abbey, Lake Belső and Lake Külső, as well as Lake Balaton are all visible from the top. The other shore and the nearby buttes can also be seen in clear weather, so if you are hiking in the area, don’t miss this beautiful view.

Tip: A gravel covered dirt road leads straight to the lookout tower from the end of Mályva utca, which you can reach from Road 71 through Sajkod.
