Adjacent to Balatonfűzfő, the ancient village of Litér dates back to the Árpád era. Its church was erected in early Gothic style in the 13th century. Having fallen into decay by the end of the 18th century, the church was rebuilt in 1784 by the Reformed congregation that had just moved to the area. A tower was added to the main building 10 years later.

The most intriguing part of the church is the sandstone side gate that opens onto the courtyard – the jamb statue-adorned gate is the first Hungarian replica of the distinctive architectural style originating from the French settlement of Chartres. The two sides of the gate are guarded by lions clutching human heads between their front paws.

The church is open to visitors all year, but those who wish to see the interior as well should make an appointment with the local pastor.
