Sümeg and the Sümeg Castle, one of Hungary’s most beautiful medieval forts that have survived in relatively good condition, are located north of Lake Balaton.
Radiating strength and pride, the castle dominates the surrounding area, and has its own hill. If you decide to visit on foot, you’ll have to put on your hiking boots, as you have to climb a steep hillside to reach the castle. However, the castle taxi is always a good alternative.
The castle houses several exhibitions and occasionally serves as a venue for such events as multiple-course medieval feasts, knight tournaments, carriage rides and wine tastings.
