Mi a kő, the new restaurant of Köveskál (the village already teeming with restaurants and wineries) opened last autumn. The former cheap wine-salty sticks bar was transformed into a top notch restaurant and winery with a terrace and a wonderful menu.

Köveskál has long been occupying a special place among the hamlets of the Káli-medence. Don't get me wrong: I adore the dead-end village peace of Balatonhenye and the tiny houses of Szentbékkálla, too, still, Köveskál has the corner of my heart, as we always pass through this pleasant settlement during bike tours, if we want to rest or fill up our depleted "batteries".

The centre of conutryside life is the pub- however, a much more stylish inn awaits the tired wanderer in the centre of Köveskál. In the place of the one-time Fekete-hegyi Betérő opened Mi a kő - The House of Káli-medence's Wines last autumnfine artist and winemaker Tamás Trombitás Tamás offers wine and food prepared from local ingredients here.

The restaurant's refined, simple and light interior that puts emphasis on old wooden doors and antique pieces of furniture is truly charming, but you can enjoy the sunshine best on the terrace. You can orientate yourself among the dishes (cooked from fresh ingredients) with the help of the menu or the blackboard that displays the special offers. Both the ris and the St George's mushroom and goat-cheese quiche seemed pretty attractive, but we choose baked-matured goat cottage cheese with beetroot and the eggplant spread as antipasto- both lived up to and exceeded our hopes.

This warm-up was followed by a marinated puolet breast salad and a Szalontüdő (sour pork heart and lungs) with bread dumplings that reminded us of Sunday lunches at grandma - we were dumbstruck with pleasure. Taking the advice of the host,Tamás Trombitás, we finished our feast with chocolate mousse and strawberry granita.
