On 21 June 2014 artist Péter Weiler will launch his exhibition called “Route ‘71” at a rather unconventional location: the bus terminal of Köveskál. Part of “Káli Buli” (Party in Kál), the joint bash organized by the representatives of the local catering industry, the exhibition will feature works showcasing typical scenes and atmospheres from Balaton life.

Köveskál is known for the fact that one would be hard pressed to find as many quality restaurants, wineries and guesthouses on a busy downtown street as in this small village, within a distance of a couple of hundred metres. On 21 June visitors of “Káli Buli” will have the chance to try the food and wine produced by Miakő wine bar, wine shop and restaurant, Kővirág guesthouse and restaurant, Káli Art Inn and 12 wineries from around the area. Péter Weiler’s exhibition will enhance the gastronomic delights.

“Balaton is a common language we all speak and understand. It means a lot to all of us, from our first kiss on the shore and grandma’s now retro summer bungalow to dad’s tent that had two separate “rooms”.  I loved putting these images on paper because it gave me a chance to revisit the tiniest moments of the best summers I’ve had. At the same time, Balaton is changing, so my aim was to paint a picture of a retro world in today’s context, to show how our childhood meets the present.”Péter Weiler.

Péter Weiler has been painting, drawing and putting his work on display for 20 years. The figurative and colourful world he creates is a captivating representation of the atmosphere of particular eras and locations, while the subtle humour of his universe puts a smile on your face.
