The new tool comes in handy when you are looking for venues and programs based on certain criteria. A map, categories (Sights & Culture, About Lake Balaton, Hotels & Accommodation, Balaton by night, Balaton Active, Wine & Gastronomy), subcategories (Sights, Museums & Exhibition halls, Cinemas & Theatres, Transportation, Lake Balaton, Hotels, Pension, Guest house & Apartment, Campsite, Bars & Pubs, Nightclubs & Discos, Bikeriding & Outdoor activities, Beaches, Spas & Wellness, Sports & Adventure, Cafés & Confectionery, Restaurants, Wineries & Wine cellars, Markets, Local Produce, Delicatessen, Buffets) and a badge system reflecting the site structure will help you narrow your search.
There is no need to panic if at first glance the army of blue pins looks as dense as the Sherwood Forest because you’ll soon get the hang of how to use the database, which has been put together through careful selection.
Let’s take an example
Let’s say you are looking for horseback riding opportunities around Lake Balaton. Select the Balaton Active category, then the Sports & Adventure subcategory and finally the pictogram showing a horse. Once you are done with that, the browser should give you a total of ten hits – you can choose a location to your liking from among these.
Click the Open the whole map link, which will take you to a sizeable map displaying all the locations in a given category. If you filter your search results based on regions, you’ll obviously only see the blue pins within a particular section. A driving route planner is also part of the map. With the help of the platform on the left, you can arrange the locations into six categories.
In addition, a badge system will also help you navigate. The search hits, with small pictures, will show up in alphabetical order next to the map, below the pictograms.
The search field located in the top left-hand corner can do the following: you can type in the name of a specific venue or a generic name (e.g. confectionery, beach) to get hits. Use the right hand search field to search within individual towns.
As for events, you can choose from six categories, just like on the site. You can search for free events or browse the program selection of a particular township. The hits are organized in a chronological order for your convenience. Keeping Balaton fans from abroad in mind, we have also made the browser available in English.
