It is a well-known fact that a diet rich in fish is super healthy, thanks mainly to omega-3 fatty acids. The aim of the Balaton H.E.K.K. and Health Festival is to educate visitors about Balaton fish and the nutritious dishes you can make from them.

The acronym H.E.K.K. in the name of the festival is an allusion to the most beloved fish of the Balaton: the wels catfish (harcsa), the Prussian carp (ezüst kárász) and the bream (keszeg). From another aspect it makes reference to the funny, almost legendary phenomenon that the European hake is advertised by fish fryers around the lake as a typical Balaton dish.

Tourists are invited to learn about native Balaton fish, and to sample the tasty fish dishes, sure to be a singular gastronomic experience. Balaton fish are no mass products, but are a real culinary treat. The national ten-seater rowing championship will be organized at the same time in the Balatonföldvár harbour. Musical acts will add to the versatility of the programme, with performances by Irish Firkin, Dávid Fekete and the Megarox Társulat, among others. Visitors can also choose from various popular music events, children’s programmes, a crafts fair, a street party and a fireworks display.
