“A year ago, at the time of the debut of Nagyon Balaton, we launched two festivals in the Balaton region: B.my.Lake in Balatonvilágos and STRAND – Nagyon Zene Festival in Zamárdi, the host location of Balaton Sound. The latter, as the name suggests, awaits visitors on the Balaton shore for the second time straight as a live manifestation of Petőfi Rádió,” says main organizer Norbert Lobenwein, adding that as part of the Széchenyi 2020 Adventure Park, the highest tower of the Balaton will be erected at the Zamárdi public beach. Thrill-seeking festivalgoers can take a plunge from 30 metres and slide on a 200-metre long zip-line course above the audience.
The organizers of the second STRAND – Nagyon Zene Festival have come up with a truly interesting concert selection that is designed to meet all kinds of demands. Visitors are promised a spectacular fireworks display every night. On 20 August, the opening day of the festival the 25th anniversary concert of Tankcsapda will be followed by the gig of the American rockers of Papa Roach. The next day the Parov Stelar Band, a crowd favourite at Hungarian festivals only hitting the STRAND stage in the country this year, will arrive in Zamárdi together with British drum and bass producer Wilkinson. Friday will feature concerts by other festival favourites such as Dub FX and Knife Party, and Saturday will be the day of the first ever Hungarian John Newman gig, highly anticipated by thousands of fans.
“Petőfi Rádió lending its slogan to STRAND guarantees that the list of Hungarian performers will feature illustrious names,” said VOLT Produkció chief Zoltán Fülöp. Almost a hundred acts will take the stage, including Punnany Massif, Brains, Irie Maffia, Kiscsillag, Quimby, 30Y, The Carbonfools, Copy Con, Majka, Fish!, Supernem, Bori Péterfy and the Love Band, Magashegyi Underground, Soerii & Poolek and Random Trip featuring Valerie M, the regular collaborator of Groove Armada and Freestylers.
Many DJs of Petőfi Rádió will also be in the STRAND line-up, among them chief music editor DJ Izil. Prepare yourselves for four days with the Robur DJs, Karányi, Julia Carpenter as well as the Nobody Moves and Rewind crews.
The participants and winners of the talent show Nagy-Szín-Pad, jointly organized by VOLT Produkció and Petőfi Rádió, will also pop up at STRAND: Mary Popkids, Ivan & the Parazol, Szabó Balázs Bandája, Deniz, Odett, Cloud9+ and Carbovaris will all be there, to name just a few.
Not only nagyon zene…
Gergely Horváth, the well-liked presenter and channel coordinator of Petőfi Rádió, will be coming to you live from STRAND with his popular radio programme Kultúrfitnesz. “It is always a great experience when we get to test ourselves outside the four walls of the radio. Deniz, Tomi Fluor, Janó Kardos-Horváth, Robi Bérczesi and Anna Pásztor will be among my guests. Listeners across the country will be able to follow the happenings of STRAND – Nagyon Zene Festival because the programme will be broadcast live from the festival venue for four days.”
Diákhitel Kávézó, the “chatty” location of STRAND, will feature twelve talks and lectures over four days: the Design Terminal team will introduce young entrepreneurs, designers and artists, there will be a wine tasting and a lecture by head physician and toxicologist Gábor Zacher.
The Balaton for me…
This will be the name of the event, starting every day at noon near Parti Bisztró, in which participants can enlist the help of well-known artists to produce their own works of art, showing what the Balaton means to them.
Route ’71, the exhibition of Péter Weiler named after the highway encircling Lake Balaton, showcases the Balaton atmosphere. His work will be displayed at the festival, too, in quite a unique manner: hung up on a fence.
