Seven townships around the Balaton came up with something big, like in a fairy tale. The Balaton Best Card promotes a slower way of life and allows visitors to the region to enjoy many services for a reduced price this season.

The idea of the Best Balaton Card is not without precedent, as a tourist card providing cardholders with a wide range of discounts has been in use on the Austrian coast of Lake Neusiedl for a long time. Seven Balaton townships, Balatonalmádi, Alsóörs, Felsőörs, Csopak, Lovas, Balatonfüred and Tihany are now trying to implement this trusted foreign system on the Balaton shore.

Those booking accommodation at one of the partner facilities of the above towns are issued a card free of charge upon check-in. Cardholders are invited to embark on a sort of exploration, as the BBC is accepted at the region’s eight beaches, many restaurants, wine taverns, museums and adventure parks. Entry to the beaches is 40% off on the first four days of your stay, while on the fifth, sixth and seventh day you can enter for free.

Travelling gratis between Balatonfűzfő and Tihany on buses marked as belonging to BalatonVolán and on local buses in Balatonfüred is also part of the deal. The principles of slow tourism were taken into consideration during the planning of the discount system. No need to go everywhere by car when you can travel by bus for free. The scheme is not only beneficial because everyone can have a glass of wine with their dinner, but also because the area is less polluted by exhaust fumes. Thanks to the discounts tourists can have a more relaxed experience and try a range of activities at any given location, so everyone can immerse themselves in the region based on their own needs.
