FRIDAY
Pálffy at Kredenc - Balatonfüred (28/Nov)
Kredenc has been one of our favourites since its opening, and we are especially happy to see that the owner, András Dobai is serious about keeping the place open in the autumn and winter as well. On Friday, a determining figure from the Káli Basin, vintner Gyula Pálffy will help to consolidate the sub-Mediterranean café vibes by bringing along 6 of his wines for tasting. Booking a table is as highly recommended as arranging for a ride or a taxi home, not to mention the cancellation of Saturday morning engagements.
Wine Dinner with Légli - Siófok (28/Nov)
The important winemakers are not limited to the north shore, hence it poses a huge dilemma to decide whether to chat with Pálffy about Köveskál or to taste Légli Bányászó 2012 at Mala Garden. In Siófok, they'll serve caramelized Brussels sprouts and cauliflower cream as a warm antipasto, which is - let's admit - not an everyday occurrence.
Movie Magic - Balatonfüred (28/Nov)
The Szolnok-based symphony orchestra will refrain from playing Berlioz or Schubert this evening; instead, it will perform soundtracks from popular movies. The poster brought together Marlon Brando, Pierce Brosnan and conductor Izaki Masahiro in a slightly awkward style, but we believe that concert will compensate for all previous lacks of quality.
The Expresszó of Veszprém - always in the forefront of music - holds an alternative night on Friday: András Lovasi's Kiscsillag will focus on their album Szeles (2014) but other hits are also to be expected. The appearance of Esti Kornél at the same night is no accident: they are young, they like to be referred to as alternative and they are as far from straightforward lyrics as Kiscsillag is from disco music.
Szabó Balazs Bandája - Keszthely (28/Nov)
Balázs Szabó and his band released the album Élet elvitelre this year. toured all throughout summer around Lake Balaton, and celebrated the band's 5th birthday at Budapest's Akvárium Klub a few weeks ago. THe series is far from over: Balázs will now light up the sky in Keszthely in the frame of an acoustic show.
SATURDAY
PIAC Placc Mangalitza Pig Slaughter - Tihany (29 Nov)
The gap between harvest festivals and the Advent mulled wine period is perfectly covered by the Hungarian tradition that might not be so popular with Greenpeace or PETA activists. The venue of ARTPlacc will now give space to a pig slaughter - which might or might not be the central topic of a bizarre contemporary art project. But do not expect anything artsy for now: on your plate you have a celebrity butcher Laci Spirk and a whole day of pig slaughter activities, not to be missed. It all starts at 7 in the morning, but if you'd rather skip the blood-spilling, arrive after 9.
If you wanted to skip the process, but be knocked out from the resulting delicacies, head to Szent Kristóf Winery's pig slaughter event in Zamárdi! The garlicky-savoury pork roast a lá granny seems especially mouth watering, so be sure to hurry up with booking a spot. Andrews are in luck: their dinner is on the house!
Conservationist Pig Slaughter - Köveskál (28-30 Nov)
Káli Art Inn begins the pig slaughter warm-up on Friday, but the real action arrives only on Saturday and Sunday. Keep in mind though, that this event is only open to those who pay a 46 000 HUF price that includes everything from accommodation to food. This amount will cover all your weekend activities from the sauna and the mulled wine at Káli Art Inn to the pork dishes for lunch and dinner at Miakő, upgrading the notion of Hungarian wellness weekends to v2.0.
100 Hungarikum Bormustra (wine show) - Vonyarcvashegy (29 Nov)
To detour from pigs and pork dishes, Keszthely offers you the opportunity to taste the wines of 100 different wineries for 4000 HUF. The event's page is strangely secretive, so we can't tell about the quality of the selection. The three presentations might be useful if you have a notebook at hand, but the unlimited tasting will definitely draw in more people.
