There are a few enviable places around the world, where snowboarding, hiking or wine tasting can fit into the same day - plus the buzz continues at night as well. Choose a concert or a ballet and go for refreshing dipping the day after. No need to travel to New Zealand for these options though just pop down to Lake Balaton. The last program guide of 2014 shows you where to go and when.

SATURDAY (27 Dec)

Participation requires advance registration in most cases: you can check out the details and the wineries here.

Winter constellations of Bakonybél - Bakonybél (27 - 30 Jan)

The Pannon Observatory in Bakonybél brings you a touchscreen sky map, renewed exhibition space and installations, and several exciting programs for the holiday season. These include a movie about the unnerving phenomenon of black holes, a Cosmic Commando bringing you fun facts and surprises. The most exciting program comes in the evening: if the skies are clear, an expert will explain the objects of the night sky as seen by the naked eye and through the telescope. Registration is required for this latter program point.

MONDAY (29 Dec)

Kyev City Ballet: Swan Lake and The Nutcracker - Veszprém (29 Dec)

Swan Lake is Tschaikovsky's first ballet and one of the most frequently performed pieces of ballet history. The most spectacular movement of the 19th century piece, the '32 fouetté en tournant' takes place in the second act. This is an action where the dancer stands for a moment on flat foot with the supporting knee bent as the other "working" leg is whipped around to the side, creating the impetus to spin one turn. At the Veszprém Arena on 29 December, Now you can enjoy the performance of the world famous Kyev City Ballet and its soloist, who are on a Central European tour.

At the same venue on the same day, they will perform The Nutcracker at 1 PM.

WEDNESDAY (31 Dec)

We won't go into details about New Year's Eve now, since we already summed up where to spend the evening before the New Year's Dipping in Szigliget.

The event begins at 11 AM with medical check-ups, music will be provided by the Cimbaliband, and the start of the dipping will be marked by cannon shot at 2 PM. In addition to freezing memories, all participants will receive a certificate - not that they'd need anything to remember this sobering Balaton dipping ever.!
