Pegazus in Szentbékkálla has come forward with an initiative that is far more intriguing than the usual project of collecting old postcards, faded letters and a few black and white photographs portraying our grandmother on the beach, wearing a huge straw hat and an swimming suit of ungainly cut.
When we visited the guys transforming Pegazus last year, it was clear that the concept imported to Káli Basin would be more complex than alcohol sales. They are now gathering memories for this summer via Facebook: they ask for scanned versions of personal photographs, diaries and postcards from Lake Balaton until 15 June to emlekektava@gmail.com. The collected memories will not be exhibited, but serve as sources of inspiration for the invited artists.
Perhaps, a photograph of a teenage kiss by Lake Balaton will reappear in the shape of a sculpture, or the image of our grandparents frolicking in the water will be transformed into a painting. There will also be memories that won't be recaptured in their entirety at the July exhibition at the showroom of Pegazus: perhaps, diary entries will inspire an original video.
